About Middle School
Our Middle School is based on SD35’s Middle School Pillars and Core Values which focus on a student’s social emotional and academic needs. Betty Gilbert Middle School is a central transition point between our two feeder schools of Parkside Elementary and Shortreed Elementary, and with Aldergrove Community Secondary School. In order for this transition from Elementary to Secondary to be successful, our students continue their growth and transition process from Grade 6 to 8 at Betty Gilbert Middle School.
Our school is structured so that students have a key homeroom teacher. This allows for a connection to be made between student, family and the school. It is the exterior door to this homeroom classroom where students will enter and exit each day. This is the classroom where each student will have a locker assigned to them. Students will also have the opportunity to work closely with a second teacher, in a different classroom, and alongside these two teachers, the entire class will loop together through Grade 6 and Grade 7. Connection and belonging are the foundations of these important features of middle school.
Students at BGMS have the opportunity to take part in Advisory, House Team Activities, Band, Athletics, Intramurals, Clubs, and a wide variety of Exploration classes. We are a school full of opportunities – make sure to join in and get involved!
